COMO HACER HUARACHES | HOW TO MAKE HUARACHES

Ingredients

Masa:

3 cups of corn flour

1 tsp of salt

1 tsp of baking powder

Light drizzle of cooking oil

—add water gradually until the mass comes together and is easy to mold (as shows in video).

2-3 cups of refried pinto beans (make sure they are dry)

Salsa :

3 Tomatoes (boiled)

Dry Chiles de árbol (amount depending on the level of spiciness preferred)

¼ of an onion

2 garlic cloves

Salt

—Pour the tomatoes (once boiled), fried dry Chile de árbol, ¼ onion, 2 garlic cloves in and 1 Tbsp of salt, then blend. Once blended, pour the salsa in a bowl and set aside for now.

HUARACHES:

Roll the masa to look like a burrito. Then, make a dent to add the dry pinto beans. Once you add the pinto beans, enclose the mass again and roll into a burrito (as shown in video). Place over a plastic wrap and lay another plastic wrap on top. Flatten with a cutting board or plate(as shown in video). Then, flatten into form by hand into the shape of a sandal (huarache). Place a pan to heat on the stove. Brush cooking oil onto one side of the huarache and lay on stove. Once the edges start to brown, brush oil onto the side of the huarache facing upward, and flip. Once the edges start to brown on that side, remove the huarache from the stove. Spread salsa evenly onto the huarache, add queso fresco, sour cream, onions.

You can add an egg to the huaraches on top or carne asada, or whatever you prefer.

Now your huarache is ready to eat! Bon appetite!
